Built Around You
Motherhood can deepen the way you know yourself while making your body feel unfamiliar in ways you never expected. Wanting to feel comfortable in your own appearance again is personal, and you don’t have to justify that feeling.
A mommy makeover brings breast and body contouring procedures into one coordinated surgical plan, addressing changes that remain after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss. At Kelling Plastic Surgery in Dallas, Dr. Joseph Kelling approaches each mommy makeover with sensitivity, surgical restraint, and an understanding that recovery has to fit around children, work, and responsibilities at home. The plan is shaped around the woman you are now and the changes that would help you feel more at ease in your body.

One Name, Many Possibilities
A mommy makeover is a customized combination of breast and body contouring procedures performed during one surgery. It commonly includes a tummy tuck, breast augmentation or breast lift, and liposuction to address stretched abdominal skin, separated muscles, breast changes, and stubborn fat after pregnancy or weight loss.
No two mommy makeovers include the exact same procedures. Dr. Kelling builds each plan around the areas that will make the most meaningful difference for the individual patient.
Beyond Diet and Exercise
Mommy makeover surgery can address several changes that remain after giving birth, breastfeeding, or significant weight loss, including:

From Breasts to Waistline
Breast surgery can restore volume, improve position, or reduce breast size. Dr. Kelling may recommend breast augmentation with implants or fat transfer, a breast lift, breast reduction, or augmentation combined with a lift.
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and repairs stretched abdominal muscles. During a full tummy tuck, Dr. Kelling treats the abdominal area above and below the belly button while repairing diastasis recti when present.
Liposuction removes stubborn fat that remains resistant to diet and exercise. Treating the flanks, hips, or lower back can help the abdomen and waistline flow together more naturally.
Feeling at Home Again
Combining multiple procedures allows connected areas to be treated during one operation and one primary recovery period.

Right Procedure, Right Time
A mommy makeover may suit you if you have finished having children, completed breastfeeding, reached a stable weight, and still have concerns that diet and exercise can’t correct. Candidates should be healthy enough for general anesthesia and have realistic expectations about surgery and recovery.
Dr. Kelling may recommend waiting if you plan to have more children, are still breastfeeding, want to lose a substantial amount of weight, or cannot arrange help during recovery. Nicotine use and uncontrolled medical conditions may also interfere with safe healing.
Clear the Calendar
Dr. Kelling and his team will make sure you feel prepared before surgery. You’ll complete any required lab work, stop nicotine within the recommended timeframe, and adjust medications or supplements when medically appropriate. Arrange transportation and reliable help with children, meals, and household responsibilities, since lifting will be restricted for several weeks. Fill prescriptions, prepare loose clothing, and follow the fasting instructions provided before surgery.

Precision Across Every Procedure
Mommy makeover surgery is performed under general anesthesia at a fully accredited surgical facility.
Procedure length depends on the number and complexity of the procedures performed. Overnight nursing care may be recommended for more extensive combinations.
It Takes a Village
Most patients plan two weeks away from work and social obligations. Swelling, bruising, and a bent posture are common during early tummy tuck recovery.
You can (and should) begin walking soon after surgery, but heavy lifting and vigorous exercise remain restricted for about six weeks. Parents will need help lifting young children during this period.
Discomfort improves during the first week, and most patients move more comfortably by weeks two and three. Swelling continues decreasing over several months as the breasts and abdomen settle.
Wear all support garments as directed, keep your incisions clean, and take short walks to promote circulation. Dr. Kelling schedules follow-up visits to monitor healing and guide your return to normal activity.
Stage | What to Expect |
|---|---|
| Immediately | Visible improvement in breast and abdominal shape |
| 2–3 weeks | Bruising and early swelling begin resolving |
| 6 weeks | Many activity restrictions are lifted |
| 3–6 months | Final results become clearer as tissues settle and swelling fully resolves |
Made For Life
Mommy makeover results can remain for many years. Removed skin and fat do not return, and repaired abdominal muscles retain their support. Future pregnancy, major weight gain, aging, and changes in breast tissue can alter the outcome. Stable weight and consistent exercise help protect the final result.

We've Got You Covered
Scar placement depends on the procedures included. A tummy tuck creates a low horizontal scar that can usually be concealed beneath underwear, while breast surgery may leave incisions around the areola, down to the breast crease, or along the crease. Liposuction requires several small access points. Scars fade over time, and Dr. Kelling provides care recommendations as healing progresses.
Option | Best Suited For | Limitations |
|---|---|---|
| Mommy makeover | Multiple breast and abdominal concerns | Longer combined recovery |
| Tummy tuck alone | Loose abdominal skin and muscle separation | Does not address the breasts |
| Liposuction alone | Localized excess fat with firm skin | Cannot remove loose skin |
| Non-surgical body contouring | Mild fat or skin concerns | More subtle results |
Room for One More?
Yes. Selected patients may add fat transfer, skin tightening, or laser treatments to improve volume or skin quality. Dr. Kelling limits combinations when additional operative time could make recovery less predictable. Some treatments may be scheduled later to preserve a safer, more manageable surgical plan.

A mommy makeover is a body contouring procedure rather than a weight loss procedure. Patients generally achieve better, longer-lasting results when they are near a comfortable and stable weight before surgery.
Dr. Kelling generally recommends waiting until breastfeeding has ended and the breasts have stopped changing. This often takes several months.
Pregnancy remains possible, but it may stretch the skin and abdominal muscles again. Most patients wait until they are confident their family is complete.
Stretch marks located on skin removed during a tummy tuck will also be removed. Marks outside that area may remain, although their position or appearance can change.
Combining procedures is common for healthy, well-selected patients. Dr. Kelling considers total surgical time, medical risk, recovery support, and the scope of correction before recommending a combination.
